Saint Lucia: In a significant development, Prime Minister Philip J Pierre was delighted to announce that around 3105 pensioners will receive a one-time payment of $600 along with their monthly pensions.
This is the second time that the government of Saint Lucia will undertake this notable task. PM Pierre did the same in October 2022 when, in direct relief, $1.5 million was delivered to government pensioners living on a fixed income.
Every government pensioner received a one-time payment of $500. More than $3.2 million in direct financial support has been provided to government pensioners since PM Philip J Pierre assumed Office in July 2021.
This time, a total of $1.863 million will be directly injected into the local economy through this relief effort. This amount remitted to government pensioners will help with their day-to-day expenses.
While sharing the development, the Prime Minister said, "We have begun discussions on increasing the monthly pensions to our eligible citizens, following a 4.2% increase to all pensioners under the National Insurance Company."
He assured the general public and said that the administration would continue to provide relief to the citizens as they grapple with imported inflation and other external shocks affecting the people.
The citizens and residents of Saint Lucia were delighted to hear the news and took to Facebook to appreciate the Pierre administration.
"Thank you, Hon PM. As a pensioner, I am indeed happy to have such a caring PM. Continue putting people first. May God continue to bless you," wrote a citizen named Cyndee Edward. Another citizen, Elizabeth, said, "Thank you, Mr.PM.I retired in 1999 and you are the only PM that has considered the pensioners."
This significant amount of $600 will help pensioners to enjoy the holiday season with their families in a good manner. PM Philip J Pierre has proved that his government fulfils all its promises and never steps back from giving to the people of Saint Lucia.
